DSCF6280After two and a half months of retirement, I’M BORED! Because my thumb joints don’t allow for me to do a lot of kneading, I’ve found something new to try. Above is my first ever attempt at a CUPCAKE BOUQUET. Please tell me what you think of it and if you could see yourself ordering one sometime in the future. I’ll practice on a few more and post the pictures later. These cupcakes could be themed to anything you like and would look beautiful on a party table. This bouquet comprises 24-26 medium sized cupcakes and though I haven’t costed it yet, I expect it will come in somewhere around $60. PLEASE LEAVE COMMENTS SO I WILL KNOW IF IT’S SOMETHING YOU WOULD BE INTERESTED IN.

Oh, what fun I’ve had these last five and a half years, making some beautiful and some distinctly weird cakes for you all.

I was going to put pictures of my favourite three or four cakes into this post, but once I started looking through my photos, I couldn’t just limit it to three or four. In fact the cakes I have pictured here are only the tip of the iceberg and I would have loved to have added many more.

Time has come though to shut up shop and call it quits.

So to all my many customers, some of whom I now call my friends, thank you for a wonderful experience and I will miss you all.

Best wishes for the New Year and Beyond

Evelyn

DSCF5787This cake is for a lady who certainly doesn’t do things by halves. This cake is to celebrate her 30th birthday but she is also getting married on the same day (someone else did her wedding cake). I don’t know how she can organise so much. Anyway, here is the birthday cake with hairdressing scissors on the top (guess what her profession is). The bottom tier is covered in shades of purple/lavender butterflies and there are lavender ribbons and diamantes around the top tier and the board. A lovely cake to finish on.

DSCF5754This cake is just a celebration explosion! The colours were picked because of some sporting team both Robin and James follow (sorry, not very sports-minded). When I peeled back the fondant in the centre, I painted the turnbacks silver and filled in the hole with silver sugar balls. To finish it off we have red and silver glittered stars. A nice, clean-lined cake.

DSCF5731DSCF5730Here are some pictures of the cupcakes I had to make for Katie’s birthday (see below for cake). I spent over a day making 10 Toothless’s and five each of Hiccup and Astrid, also from the movie. The dragons were on vanilla cake and the characters on chocolate. Each cupcake was individually packaged ready for take home treats.

DSCF5735I viewed making this cake with trepidation, not knowing how ‘Toothless’ was going to turn out. In the end he came together beautifully and I was very happy with him. He is sitting on a double-layered vanilla cake which was then covered in vanilla buttercream and fondant. There are also some chocolate rocks and fondant rocks added for decoration. I wove the brown fondant to make a fish basket and it turned out rather well. Another happy birthday to you Katie and I am sorry I won’t be making any more cakes for you and your mum as she always tends to take me out of my comfort zone with her ideas.

DSCF5740How gorgeous is this cake! Before you ask, no I didn’t make the models, they were supplied by the customer and are probably made out of polyresin or something like that. But they are lovely. The detail in them is exquisite. The customer supplied the topper plus the two sitting fairies. I send Russ off to the shop and he came back with four fairy fridge magnets which I managed to incorporate in the cake as well. There were also a few rainbows just to finish off the magical scene.

DSCF5744This cake is not a big as it looks. The tiers are only 4″ and 7″ round. The cake inside is Black Forest. I nice cake and I am happy with how it turned out. I piped the design around the sides with royal icing, waited for it to dry and then painted it with edible metallic gold paint. The end result was lovely. The ’30′ and the stars were covered in edible gold glitter and the gold ribbon around the cake just added the finishing touches.

DSCF5746This little girl was having a pool party for her birthday so it was only fitting for her to have a pool cake. The ‘pool’ is a lovely, moist chocolate cake. The ‘water’ is vanilla icing and the rest of the cake is covered in chocolate buttercream and fondant. I had fun making the little extras like the jandals and towels. The only request Avika had was that the cake should have a rainbow and so that is what she got. Happy Birthday Avika.

DSCF5716How cute is this little crocodile. Zoe had her heart set on a crocodile-themed birthday and so her mother Googled images until she found this one which met the criteria but was still ‘girly’. The head and the body are made out of banana cake with buttercream and then fondant covering. I was particularly happy with the ‘reeds’ placed all around the crocodile.
